MEETING AND DELIVERY OF ZUNIBAL ELECTRONIC MONITORING (EM) CAMERA EQUIPMENT

In December 2025, the Vietnam Tuna Association (VINATUNA) and Zunibal Vietnam met with Zunibal Vietnam Co., Ltd. for delivery of Zunibal electronic monitoring (EM) camera equipment, and to discuss plans for piloting the EM system on fishing vessels. This activity supports the “Pilot implementation of Electronic Monitoring (EM) system on skipjack tuna purse seine vessels”, under the Vietnam Nam Skipjack MSC Improvement Program. Previously, in November 2025, VINATUNA worked with Zunibal Spain and reached an agreement on the trial piloting EM camera in Vietnam.

As the Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs) and international markets are increasingly imposing higher requirements for fishery regarding data coverage, continuity, and objectivity in fisheries data, the adoption of solutions that promote independent data collection is essential. In which, EM systems provide a range of functions and benefits, including supporting objective recording of on-board fishing activities, integrating artificial intelligence (AI) to enable automatic identification of catch volumes and species, and offering the ability to integrate with Vessel Monitoring Systems (VMS) and electronic logbooks (e-logbooks). The EM system are considered an effective complementary solution, offering advantages such as lower operational costs, ease of installation, and scalability across multiple vessels. These advantages contribute to improving data coverage, enhancing transparency, and better meeting fisheries management and sustainability standards.

In the next phase, VINATUNA and Zunibal Vietnam will continue piloting the EM system during fishing trips to further development. VINATUNA sincerely thanks Zunibal Vietnam and Zunibal Spain for accompanying and supporting the pilot implementation of the EM system and looks forward to strengthening this cooperation, contributing effectively to the Vietnam Nam Skipjack MSC Improvement Program.
