The Fishery Improvement Project for Vietnam Yellowfin Tuna
The “Fishery Improvement Project for Vietnam Yellowfin Tuna in Vietnam – YFT FIP" towards MSC eco-label is coordinated by WWF Vietnam and Vietnam Tuna Association. The program has been initiated since 04/2024 and obtained positive achievements. The progress of this project is reported on FPO.
Meeting of establishing the action plan for YFT FIP in Quy Nhon, 2013.
Currently, there are 28 tuna processors/enterprize participating in YFT FIP and adopting traceability code (FIP Code). The application of the FIP Code is only applicable to tuna products caught by longline/hanline fishing in 03 provinces: Bình Định, Phú Yên, and Khánh Hòa. Vietnam tuna products certified by FIP code label are only available for international buyers listed on the website below: https://seafoodsustainability.org
Since 2017, VINATUNA has co-operated with Bureau Veritas Vietnam Co., Ltd - which is one of the leading companies in fields of testing, inspection, and certification to assess the compliance with FIP code standards of tuna enterprises/ processors. The inspection/assessment for tuna products under FIP code standards is conducted annually.
